WNiF Publisher Craig Mac gives you the heads up on making your visit to one of the upcoming local fitness expo’s a successful one.

1. Make a diary date. Unless you commit a particular day or days in advance, it’s quite likely you will allow something else to interfere and prevent your visit.

2. Pre-register to avoid lengthy queues.

3. Decide exactly what you want to get out of the exhibition, create a timetable and allocate certain parts of the day for certain priorities.

4. Take a break, have a drink and review what you have achieved and what’s still to do.

5. Subscribe to pre-show emails to get the latest news and read the previews to discover any highlights of the show.

6. Make use of the pre-published floor plans and the exhibitors lists to plan your route around the show and avoid criss-crossing the floor.

7. Use the exhibition’s web-based appointment system to secure meetings at times that suit you.

Visit the stands of industry experts and use the opportunity to introduce yourself and your business.

8. Grab a show bag (or two) – there’s at least one protein or energy bar in there!

9. No joke, exhibitions halls are hard work on the feet, so don’t compound the problem by wearing new or tight fitting footwear.

10. Post some show highlights on Social Media, spread the love and get some feedback.

11. Take notes of any ‘stand-out’ suppliers you talked to while your memory of their products and services are still fresh in your mind.

At least grab a business card or get ‘zapped’ with the exhibitor’s scanner for follow-up.

12. Visit the stands of industry experts and use the opportunity to introduce yourself and your business.

13. DON’T BE SHY! It’s not ‘always’ obvious what some exhibitors do or how they can help your business. Ask, get a demo or try it out yourself.

14. Take advantage of Q&A’s, forums, workshops and similar programmes to update your expertise.

15. Set some time aside to soak up the atmosphere or even get involved in some of the sessions within the expo.

16. Take plenty of business cards but hand them out cautiously unless you want to be deluged with follow-up calls and information.

17. Re-cap on your visit and make sure you’ve done or seen everything on your list – if you have any time (or energy) left, take advantage of any bargains or offers that may have caught your eye.
